by bro. Raphael Ameh, OP.

On the Good shepherd Sunday, 12th May, 2019, St. Vincent Ferrer Lay Dominican Fraternity celebrates rites of reception into the novitiate for a member and temporal profession for three members. In the presence of Fr. Joseph Osunde, OP, the provincial promoter of the Dominican family Province of St Joseph the Worker, Nigeria and Ghana, the acting provincial president, Mr Gaston Santos, OP, received their promises. The celebration was held at St. Thomas Aquinas Priory, Samonda, Ibadan.

To make our life better, Fr. Joseph Osunde OP, said we have to emulate Jesus the Good shepherd who submits his will to the Father and lay down his life for his sheep. Since the manifold problems we have in our world comes from the fact that, we have bad leadership and bad followers, he admonished the worshipping community to be good examples in their daily activities.

The moderator Prof. Mrs. Emeke Adenike, OP, gave the vote of thanks. She acknowledged the Priests, Fr. Joseph Osunde OP, Fr. Joseph Ekong OP. Fr. Lawrence Agu, OP, Fr. Christopher Nnamani, OP, and also a special thanks to their religious assistant, Fr. Patrick Akunne, OP, and their formators, friars Achi Richard, OP, and Ameh Raphael, OP. The event was well attended by family members of the received and professed. The members of St. Rose of Lima Fraternity Yaba, the Dominican Young Heart Movement (DYHM), the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena, Gusau, and some consecrated persons were in attendance.

Our Blessed Father Dominic was known from the very early days leading to the foundation of the Order to have taken seriously the accompaniment of and collaboration with lay people. St. Dominic not only provided spiritual direction to lay people but also drew them closer to himself as his collaborators in ‘Holy Preaching’. “As members of the Order, they participate in its apostolic mission through prayer, study and preaching according to the state proper to the laity.” (The Rule of the Lay Fraternity #4).  Congratulations to the Novice, Mr. Nmeke Patrick Udochukwu, and the temporary professed; Mrs Ibeh Beatrice Chizo, Mr. Obiajulu Anthony, Mr. Nwaokolo Peter Chukwunyem.

St. Dominic, pray that your sons and daughters may be faithful to their heritage; of common life, prayer, studies and service.
