Asian Lay Dominicans meet Promoter General fr Rui Lopes, op

Rev. Fr. Rui Carlos Antunes e Almeida Lopes, OP, Promoter General of Dominican Laity, had joyous meetings with the Lay Dominicans of Indonesia, Singapore , Timor Leste, and the Philippines.

On September 29 – October 3, 2016 some 200 Lay Dominicans of Jakarta, Jogjakarta , Pontianak, Cirebon, and Surabaya of Indonesia had a National Retreat in Jogjakarta. Lay Dominican Formators and Council members had a session of introducing themselves to Fr. Rui and sharing respective activities. A historical and descriptive sharing on Lay Dominicans worldwide was delivered by Fr. Rui.
The Asia-Pacific Coordinator on the International Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities, Belen L. Tangco, OP, gave a talk on the structure of Lay Dominican Fraternities and the proper organization of Lay Dominican groups under formation.
Promoters and Religious Assistants of Lay Dominican in Indonesia also took active part in conducting the retreat: Rev. Fr. Joseto Bernadas, Jr., OP, Rev. Fr. Andreas Kurniawan, OP, Rev. Fr. Johannes Robini Marianto , OP., Rev. Fr. Adrian Adiredjo , OP, and Sr. Benedetta , OP of Pontianak.

In the Philippines, the Dominican Laity Provincial Council, headed by Belen L. Tangco, OP, and Catharina Ramos, OP, Lay Dominican from San Juan Vicariate of the Holy Rosary, and other members of the Dominican Family warmly welcomed the Promoter General. Prior Provincial V. Rev. Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner, OP, Rev. Fr. Honorato C. Castigador, OP, Provincial Promoter of Dominican Laity, Rev. Fr. Rodel Cansancio, OP , Provincial Syndic, OP, Rev. Fr. Patrick Hiwatig, OP, Prior of San Lorenzo Ruiz, Dagatdagatan, Rev. Fr. Hilario Singian, OP, Rev. Fr. Napoleon Sipalay, Jr.,OP, Prior of Manaoag, and Rev. Fr. Eugene Cabillon, OP facilitated his visits and meetings with Lay Dominicans. The visit to the Margaritas Lay Dominican Community was marked with a manifest need to repair the chapel and improve the dormitory of the community. The Martinian Lay Dominicans were joyously surprised with the visit and were further inspired to pursue their mission.

Rev. Fr. Jesus Prol, OP, Provincial Vicar of Holy Rosary Province, invited Fr. Rui and Dr. B. Tangco to the foundation anniversary of the St. Martin de Porres Charity Hospital. Dubbed as a ” miracle hospital,” it has withstood 57 years with the full support of the Dominican fathers and sisters, and Lay Dominicans in San Juan City, Metro Manila. Many indigents-guests, staff and benefactors graced the momentous event.

In Singapore , Rev. Fr. Antonio Gonzalez, OP and community warmly welcomed Fr. Rui and facilitated his meeting with Lay Dominicans. In Dili – Timor Leste, Rev. Fr. Ruben Martinez Ortega, OP , Provincial Vicar, also shared hospitality. Prior Provincial of the Holy Rosary Province, V. Rev. Fr. Javier Gonzalez, OP gave his generous hand in the success of the visits in Timor-Leste and Singapore.
