Br Rui Lopes: a new video message

On 1 December Br Rui Lopes op, Promoter General of the Laity, had a fall in the priory of Santa Sabina, damaging his knees and having to undergo an operation at the wonderfully named Holy Spirit Hospital.

On Monday 12 December he was moved to the St John the Baptist Hospital in Rome for post-operative therapy, expected to last for about a month.

Br Rui is very happy: it’s a new building, he has settled in well and at last can celebrate Mass again – he was suffering the lack of that.

He gets around in a wheelchair, as he is unable to stand as yet.

At the moment he is doing exercises to maintain muscle tone in his legs to prepare for the stage at which he will be able to take his first steps alone.

Br Rui recorded this message for Lay Dominicans.

Dear brothers and sisters A very friendly, warm greeting from me. As you see I am fine, I am doing rehabilitation, here at the Knights of Malta’s St John the Baptist Hospital. I really am fine, but I do ask you to go on praying for me. We are in close communion. You are well aware that all I’ve suffered, the inconvenience – I am not in much pain – I offer for the Dominican laity. Goodbye for now.

  2. Dear brother Rui, companion in falling and hurting of legs at Santa Sabina 🙁 + 🙂
I am happy that your surgery went well and wish you a lot of patience in doing rehabilitation. Meanwhile as well the violations of my accident nearly four years ago are away and I hope the same with you, but in shorter time!
If you will not yet be back at Santa Sabina until January 18th, I will visit you in the hospital, of course!
At the snapshot you are looking very confident and positive – go on with it and be blessed! My prayers accompany you Fraternal hugs by your pre-decessor David M. Kammler OP
