Lay Dominican professions in Lithuania

Annually on the feast day of Saint Thomas Aquinas Lay Dominicans of Lithuania gather in Vilnius in the Church of St. Apostles Philip and Jacob where they celebrate Eucharist together and make professions to the Order of Preachers.

This year’s celebration took place on the 26th of January. Many Lay Dominicans from Vilnius, Kaunas and Panevežys had gathered. The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Bernardas Verbickas OP. During the homily, Fr. Bernardas OP has gone over what is the mission and charism of the Dominican vocation and by doing so has strengthened the resolve of those gathered, to follow the example of St. Dominic. We wholeheartedly thank our religious assistant Rev. Fr. Jacek Szpręglewski OP for guiding us through the Dominican way.

During the Liturgy of the Hours five Lay Dominican sisters were admitted to perpetual profession, one sister has renewed her profession and three brothers and three sisters made temporary professions to the Order of Preachers. We thank God and St. Dominic for our brothers and sisters and pray that their hearts transform into passionate hearts of preachers.

Rev. Fr. Bernardas OP wished us that our presence, our testimony and our serenity would heal those we encounter in our lives.
