CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL DEL ROSARIO ROSARY

INTERNATIONAL ROSARY CONGRESS: SEVILLE 2017

The Province of Spain of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) will celebrate a Rosary Congress to commemorate the first Centenary of the Apparitions of Fatima. The Congress will take place in Seville, in the Priory of St Thomas, from 27 to 29 October of this year.

With this Congress, as its director, Br José Barrado, the Order of St Dominic, the Order of the Rosary, wants to recall and celebrate the first Centenary if the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Fatima (1917-2017) and thus close the Dominican year, which opened because of the 8th Centenary of the pontifical approval of the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans – 1216-2016). The Congress aims not only to remember the past and examine the present, but also to “open the Rosary to the future”, on the basis of the many dimensions and possibilities offered by this universal Marian devotion.

There will be four thematic areas: history, art and iconography, spirituality, and popular devotion, in which prominent national and international specialists will expound on various topics, seeking to establish the current state of the various areas. We believe that the programme is rather complete, as can be seen form the attached document.

Among the participants, the presence of the Promoter General of the Rosary Br Louis-Marie Ariño-Durand, OP and also of the Promoter General of the Laity, Br Fray Rui Carlos Antunes e Almeida Lopes, OP stand out. In addition to the themes, an interesting round table is planned on the spirituality of the rosary and its current validity, with the participation of a friar, a contemplative nun and a lay member of the Order. There is also a small art exhibition on the programme, by Br Félix Hernández Mariano, and an original piece of music composed for this Congress. There will also be a rosary celebration prepared by the confraternities. Furthermore, every day there will be meditated prayer of the Rosary and Eucharist.

On the part of the Organising Committee we wish to appeal especially to all those who form the Dominican Family in Spain, the fraternities and confraternities of the Rosary, not only of the Order but also of the Dioceses, the musicians and flamenco singers who throughout the country keep the Rosary alive, researchers and professors and all those who are devoted to this blessed prayer.
