10th Assembly of European Lay Dominicans

The European Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities (ECLDF) has just announced the program for the 10th Assembly of European lay Dominicans, to be held in Fatima from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 October this year.

Fatima has been much in the news recently: this year is the centenary of the encounter there of three Portuguese children with the Virgin Mary, so the Assembly will also be a pilgrimage for the participants, who will have accommodation in a hotel run by Dominican Sisters.

fr Bruno Cadorè op   As is customary, there will be several speakers to stimulate the delegates: the present Master of the Order, Br Bruno Cadoré; the former Master, Br Timothy Radcliffe; and a Dutch Sister who has years of experience working with victims of violence, first in Columbia and now in Iraq. Our Promoter General, Br Rui Carlos Lopes, will be there too, together with his lay assistant, Ruth Anne Henderson.

The plenary sessions will be held entirely in English, so participants should be able to understand thisfr Timothy Radcliffe op language without difficulty. On Saturday 7 October new Council members will be elected, so start thinking about who could represent us all over the next four years!

The Assembly is always a splendid opportunity to share and exchange ideas, hopes, dreams and experiences, and of course to pray together: every day there will be Lauds and Vespers as well as Mass.

It is vitally important that every Province and Vicariate in Europe send at least one representative to contribute to this crucial occasion. And Portugal is a lovely country, friendly and cordial!
