Fraternity Sofia Bulgaria

fr Rui Lopes visited the Fraternity of Sofia

The Promotor General for Laity of the Order, fr. Rui Carlos Antunes e Almeida Lopes OP, visited the LDF of Sofia, Bulgaria from 09 to 11 February

On the evening of his arrival fr. Rui was welcomed in an already traditional for the local fraternity way – with an “agape diner” with delicious local meal and rakia (a traditional Balkan brandy). On the next day he met with Msgr Christo Proykov, Bishop of Catholics of Byzantine rite and President of the Conference in Bulgaria and later with Msgr Georgi Yovchev, Bishop of the Sofia-Plovdiv diocese. On Sunday, fr. Rui had a meeting with the fraternity and spoke about the communal life and preaching of the Lay Dominicans, as well as about the nature of obedience in their case. Later that day he celebrated the Mass in Latin in St Joseph Cappucine parish and gave a homily. At the end of his visit an idea spontaniously arose: the members invited him to lead their spiritual retreat and recieve their professions in St Dominic’s feast in 2019 which he gladly accepted.
